Waste management Service Zones are defined as the minimum administrative areas where an integrated waste management system operates fully, covering all stages from waste generation to final disposal, with a focus on resource efficiency.
The National Integrated Solid Waste Management Strategy (Ministry of Environment) proposes 17 waste management Service Zones across Lebanon. These zones may be revised in response to national planning priorities, local strategies, infrastructure developments, and socio-environmental factors.
The REMAL project supports the national strategy by developing solid waste management master plans for coastal Service Zones and assisting in the creation of actionable, sustainable, and financially viable operational plans for waste management services.
